Beale Park Thames Boat Show
Beale Park Thames Boat Show

Each year, exhibitors take to the showground's seven acre lake to stage a series of display; showcasing a variety of boats and creating an interesting and informative attraction for visitors.

Various boating organisations and associations plan and commentate their own display, with regular performances.

Displays are scheduled at regular intervals on the Saturday and Sunday, so see a showground Entertainment Schedule or your complimentary show brochure for further information.

NAVAL RE-ENACTMENT ON THE LAKE

Members of the Historical Maritime Society, will recreate a slice of life at sea in Nelson's Navy at this year's Beale Park Boat Show at Lower Basilson in Berkshire; 4th - 6th June 2010.

Once back on dry land, the re-enactors will return to their marquee to explain aspects of life at sea for the officers and men, and for the ladies left at home; who will also be present at the show for afternoon tea!

Visitors will have the chance to learn how crews were fed, what they drank, how ship to ship signalling worked and much more.

THE DINGHY CRUISING ASSOCIATION

The Dinghy Cruising Association was formed in 1955 to encourage all forms of small boat sailing other than racing. The membership comprises people of all ages from all walks of life, sharing the same love of messing about in boats.

Some members have extensive passage sailing experience, in boats that they have developed over some years. Some, however, are just potterers who enjoy a sail out to an island, or round to that secluded bay for a swim.

The association will be in residence at the show, and generally provides a lot of on-water activity in a range of small craft and will demonstrate that there are many ways of having fun on the water in small boats.

It will be on hand throughout the event to provide essential information and will have on show an in-build version of the Roamer (DCA cruising dinghy design). There will also be a display of members' cruising dinghies on the pontoon.

SAILING CANOE ON THE LAKE

Having recently been on an expedition around the west coast of Scotland, Gavin Millar has a vast amount of experience and will demonstrate various uses of sailing canoe on the lake on Saturday and Sunday.

With his outriggers attache, he will demonstrate how easily his canoe can be sailed, paddled and rowed and just how lightweight and versatile these craft are.

Although his canoe, like many others, is made largely from modern materials, it still remains a relatively inexpensive way of getting out onto the water.

Gavin will be on hand throughout the weekend to give a first hand account of exciting voyages he has been on; as well as describing the seaworthy capabilities and the ease of getting out and about onto the water, whether it be exploring rivers, estuaries, lochs or the open sea, in a sailing canoe.

HORSHAM WORKING NEWFOUNDLAND DOGS GROUP

Horsham Working Newfoundlands is an informal group of Newfoundland owners and devotees. Members span the breadth of several counties including Sussex, Surrey, Kent and London.

They meet regularly to work the dogs, enjoy each other's company and spend quality time with the dogs. The Boat Show displays will help illustrate that these are natural water dogs with their thick coats and webbed feet. Due to their  exceptional strength they are ideal for towing individuals and small boats from the water.

Back by popular demand, the dogs and their owners will be performing throughout the Boat Show weekend.  Check the entertainments schedule at the event for exact timings.
