Beale Park Thames Boat Show

Decade: The 60s

Built: 1964

Name: Arcadia

"Arcadia" is a Lloyd's registered boat at Rochester.  She was built at Bates and Sons in  Chertsey in 1964.

Her hull is double diagonal teak on oak, with the topside made of mahogany.  "Arcadia" was built for a Mr Slinger who lived in Runnymede.  When eventually sold, she moved to Norfolk, before being bought by Keith Beautement of Old Windsor.   "Arcadia" finally returned home in 1986 when she was purchased by her current owners, Carol and Martin,  who live just a few doors down on the same street as her first owner in Runnymede!

A well loved family boat with six berths in three cabins, she’s in frequent use, and even took a leading role on Carol’s and Martin’s wedding day, transporting the bride and her father to church and then the bride and groom to their reception.

"Arcadia" is known on the Thames for her participation in the annual event of Swan Upping (A census of the swan population on the Thames).  She has joined the escort boats which assist the Sovereign’s Swan Marker in the ceremony for more than 25 years.
