Decade: The 70s
Built: 1970
Name: Avenger 21
This classic 1970’s powerboat was found in a garden, where it had been for 20 years. It is now being restored by its present owner, Emrhys Barrell.
It was first owned by Tommy Sopwith, the legendary offshore powerboat racer, and was used as a tender for his yacht “Philante V”. Because of this it had to be as light as possible, so it was made of carbon-fibre - a revolutionary new material at the time - which cost the same as the equivalent weight in gold.
It was then bought by The Hon Edward Greenhall, as a tender for his powerboat “GEE”.
Originally, she had a 160hp petrol outdrive, and a speed of 35-40mph.
