Organisers of the 2011 Beale Park Boat Show, joined forces with Makita, the leading power tools manufacturer and the Electric Boat Association to stage a new competition at this year’s show, Water Craft magazine’s “Cordless Canoe Challenge”.

The competition was designed to challenge amateur boating enthusiasts and newcomers alike by putting their creative talents and skills to the test. Entrants were asked to build or adapt a canoe or small boat which was to be powered by cordless electric power tools, before participating in a series of heats on the lake which ran throughout the Show, ending with an award ceremony on the Sunday.

Twelve brave entrants took part in the competition and had to motor around an L-shaped course on the lake at the Show of approximately 300 meters whilst enduring the pressure of being watched by interested spectators.

After several heats this year’s outright winner by a convincing margin was Tobias Vokuhl, a professional carpenter from Oxford, who designed and built his entry.

Gillie Jackson, Organiser of the Beale Park Boat Show, says “The competition was a great success and saw lots of innovative designs and was great fun to watch.

Congratulations to Tobias Vokuhl and his fantastic design”. For further information about the competition, entrants, winners and other prizes on offer, please click on the download to view Water Crafts article.
