Youngsters rise to a boat building challenge!

Boat builder, Colin Jones, has set himself and a group of local school children, the challenge of building a wooden boat and paddling it on the lake at the end of this year's Beale Park Boat Show, 4^th – 6^th June 2010, Lower Basildon in Berkshire.

The 16ft plywood catamaran has been designed for simple construction, using materials which are readily available and which will give the group practical hands-on experience of constructing their own project, that they will be able to see come together during the show, and then take to the water.

Over 100 of these boats were sent to fishermen in Sri Lanka following the Boxing Day Tsunami, enabling them to build them on the beach so that they could replace their fishing boats and feed their families.
