Organisers of the Beale Park Boat Show announced today that Cecile Mallett from Caversham is the winner of the show’s “Win a Day on the River” competition, run in partnership with The Beetle & Wedge Boathouse Restaurant and Henley Sales & Charter.
The prize takes Cecile and five lucky companions on a voyage of discovery onboard “Rose O’Dea”, a charming traditional wooden launch on the Thames; with a delicious Skipper’s picnic, exclusively prepared by Georges Delorme, Head Chef at The Beetle & Wedge Boathouse at Moulsford, before stopping off at Beale Park to see the animals.
Gillie Jackson, Organiser of the Beale Park Boat Show says, “Congratulations to Cecile, we received an enormous amount of entries which was no surprise considering the great prize on offer”.
Cecile correctly answered the prize draw question, launched at this year’s Boat Show in June, which was to name “Who wrote ‘Three Men in a Boat’?” – the answer being Jerome K Jerome.
The three organisations, all members of the River Thames Alliance Marketing Partnership, joined forces to help promote the river for leisure and tourism. Madeline Harris, River Thames Alliance Marketing Partnership, says, “The competition has helped to showcase how, by working together, river businesses can promote life at the water’s edge. The prizes offered by The Beetle & Wedge Boathouse Restaurant, Henley Sales & Charter and Beale Park are a fantastic reflection of the wealth of unique activities that the River Thames has to offer from boating to fine dining to wildlife parks”.
